Ancient Words For Today - Psalm 32:8

We have all pondered the question, "What is best for me?" when facing crossroads and decision paths in our lives. We may take time and great care to determine and evaluate the apparent pros and cons of each decision we make. However, we may not have all of the facts to consider and, in the end, we only can make a best guess about whether our decision will be the best one for us. Other times we spontaneously make decisions or take actions with little thought of the outcome because it seems like the appropriate thing to do at the moment.

So often, things don't turn out the way we expect. Circumstances we didn't foresee may thwart our plans or make an unexpected big mess of everything. Then, in retrospect we moan, If only I had known what was coming, I would have made a different decision!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could know, in advance, all of the facts and the ultimate outcome of every possible decision or action, and have the wisdom to make the right choices for our good? While that is impossible for us, it is not impossible for God. He knows everything, even before it happens. He knows our very thoughts before we think them. And God thinks about us constantly because He loves us so much; He can't take His eyes off of us! And He always knows what will be the best possible path for our ultimate good.

So, if God knows everything, and loves us, and wants to show us the best path, why is it that we so often fail to seek God's wisdom and His will for our life, before we make decisions? Consider for a moment what God has said concerning this:

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5

The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of knowledge: [but] fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do [his commandments]: his praise endureth for ever. Psalm 111:10

For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:3

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Dear Lord, please give us Your Godly wisdom and direction concerning our life choices, as we seek your will today. Lead us by your Word and guide us by your Spirit in the way we should go, that we might keep your commandments and follow after Your wonderful plan for our lives. Thank You for loving us so much! Amen.
