LAST WORDS

When Jesus was crucified, he spoke seven times from the cross in the presence of those who were gathered at his feet. His last words are recorded below in bold type along with other things he said or were said about him in scripture.

1) Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, {Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.} And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Proverbs 19:11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and [it is] his glory to pass over a transgression.

Proverbs 24:29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

Proverbs 25:21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

Matthew 5:39 {But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.} {And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have [thy] cloke also.} {And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.}

Matthew 5:43 {Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.} {But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;} {That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.} {For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?} {And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more [than others]? do not even the publicans so?} {Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.}

Matthew 6:12 {And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.}

Matthew 6:14 {For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:} {But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.}

Matthew 18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, {I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.}

Matthew 18:34 {And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.} {So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.}

Mark 11:25 {And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.} {But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.}

Romans 12:17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but [rather] give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance [is] mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

2) John 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, {Woman, behold thy son!} Then saith he to the disciple, {Behold thy mother!} And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own [home].

Matthew 25:40 {And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me.}

Matthew 12:48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, {Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?} And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, {Behold my mother and my brethren!} {For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.}

3) Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, {Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.}

Job 33:27 He looketh upon men, and [if any] say, I have sinned, and perverted [that which was] right, and it profited me not; He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light. Lo, all these [things] worketh God oftentimes with man, To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

Psalms 32:5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

Psalms 50:15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Isaiah 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. John 14:3 {And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, [there] ye may be also.}

John 17:24 {Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.}

II Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, [I say], and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Philippians 1:23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

4) Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, {Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?} that is to say, {My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?}

Psalms 22:1 {To the chief Musician upon Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of David.} My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? [why art thou so] far from helping me, [and from] the words of my roaring?

Psalms 9:10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

Psalms 37:25 I have been young, and [now] am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

II Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. [We are] troubled on every side, yet not distressed; [we are] perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

5) John 19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, {I thirst.}.

John 19:29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put [it] upon hyssop, and put [it] to his mouth.

Psalms 22:15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

Psalms 69:21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

6) John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, {It is finished:} and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put [him] to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong [his] days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know therefore and understand, [that] from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince [shall be] seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof [shall be] with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

Zechariah 13:7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man [that is] my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.

Matthew 20:28 {Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.}

Romans 10:4 For Christ [is] the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Hebrews 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption [for us].

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Hebrews 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once [for all]. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

7) Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, {Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit:} and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

Psalms 31:1 {To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.} In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me. For thou [art] my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me. Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou [art] my strength. Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

I Peter 2:23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed [himself] to him that judgeth righteously:
